Summary
David's Psalm 51 traces a pathway from sin to joy through consciousness, crushing conviction, and confession. Rather than escaping awareness of sin, David allows it to crush him, leading to honest confession before God and restoration of fellowship. The sermon challenges believers to abandon habits of escape, face their sin consciously, and confess to experience the complete joy that comes from restored relationship with God.
Highlights
The whole sermon is not meant to call you out for the sake of calling you out. The idea is to help you find joy by saying: where are you messing up? Where are you slipping? Where are your escapes? Don't escape. Be aware of it. Let it crush you. But confess.
You can't lose your salvation, but you can lose the joy of your salvation. There's real, real punishment there.
I don't think that the Devil just sets up systems for us to sin, but for us to also escape when we sin, suppress it down, to get away, to not acknowledge it, to not be aware of it.
