Summary
Paul exhorts Timothy to be strengthened by Christ's grace amid opposition and fear, calling believers to model the soldier (fight for truth), athlete (hand off the gospel baton), and farmer (work hard and wait patiently) to preserve the gospel for future generations.
Highlights
Peace without the truth isn't peace, it's surrender. God's word is called the sword of the spirit. Peace without the truth is you simply laying down your sword in front of the enemy who does not care about keeping peace.
You should have no insecurity if you really understand what Jesus did for you on the cross. You should have no fear of the future, no fear of the unknown. You should have no fear of anybody or anything if you really understand what Jesus has accomplished for you.
The Christian life is neither a sprint nor a marathon. It is a relay race. We are running now for the sole purpose of being able to pass the baton to the next runner who will then run the next leg of the race after our leg is done.
