Sermon
A Different Kind of Identity

Summary
Peter writes to churches scattered across Asia Minor to remind them of their foundational identity as elect exiles—chosen by God but rejected by the world. Before addressing how to live, Peter establishes who believers are: loved children of God, purchased by Christ's blood, and set apart by the Holy Spirit. This vertical identity in Christ must replace horizontal sources like achievement, appearance, relationships, possessions, and others' opinions.
Highlights
If you're a Christian, you've been elected by God, but rejected by the world. You're in exile.
Identity precedes and informs activity. Before he tells them what to do, he reminds them who they are.
The only source that can satisfy. It's the only source that will endure. And it's offered to you freely.
