Summary
Abraham's covenant with King Abimelech demonstrates three marks of godly neighboring: distinctiveness (living visibly shaped by God), honesty (speaking truth despite fear), and peacemaking (actively pursuing reconciliation). The courage to live this way flows from trusting God's promises, exemplified by Abraham planting a tree for future generations.
Highlights
Only when we trust the everlasting God can we be good neighbors. Trusting God frees us from the need to control and frees us to truly love our neighbors.
Godly neighbors are distinct. The Bible calls us to be salt and light in the world, living a life that leads people to ask: what's your deal?
Dishonesty is a massive deal to God. If we are characterized by unrestrained and continual dishonesty, we need to ask: has the gospel truly captured my heart?
