Summary
Through 1 Kings 17:17–23, the sermon teaches that God alone determines the end of all things. When the widow's son dies despite her faithfulness, Elijah cries out to God, who restores the child to life—the Bible's first recorded resurrection. This foreshadows Christ's victory over death and calls listeners to surrender their greatest burdens to God's sovereign care.
Highlights
Whatever you place into the hands of God is worth it. Whatever you just say, 'God, I'm giving you this,' whatever you put into the hands of God is not wasted.
Jesus never promises an easier life, but he does promise his presence in the midst of those very difficult times. We don't obey God to have an easier life; we obey God because he is worthy of our obedience.
Death is not the end for the believer—it is an entrance to the beginning. And we will live with Jesus Christ for eternity in heaven.
