Sermon
Blessed Be the Lord
Stonebrook Community Church
Speaker: Brad Barrett, with Matt Heerema
May 19, 2025 · 35 min
Summary
Through Judges 4-5, the speaker traces Israel's cyclical pattern of sin, oppression, and deliverance. God raises Deborah as prophetess and Jael as unlikely deliverer to defeat King Jabin's army, demonstrating that God uses the weak to shame the strong and offers grace even to doubters like Barak. The gospel parallel: just as Israel was delivered from deserved judgment, believers are saved through Christ's death on the cross.
Highlights
There's never a legitimate reason to doubt the Lord in our lives, ever. There are reasons, but no legitimate reasons to doubt the Lord.
The Lord our God saves to the uttermost. He saves extravagantly. And then His people will blaze like the sun in His righteousness.
The shocking plot twist to the gospel story is that nails like tent pegs were hammered into the body of our Savior. He took the death we deserved.
