Sermon
Christmas Eve at Redemption
Redemption Church - Twin Cities
Speaker: Drew Stevenson
December 24, 2025 · 23 min
Summary
Matthew 1:18-25 reveals that Jesus is Emmanuel—God with us—born to save people from their sins, not to affirm human lifestyle. The sermon contrasts Christianity's true message (salvation for sinners who recognize their moral guilt) against cultural sentimentalizations and the false religiosity of self-justification through good works.
Highlights
The message of Christmas is so simple that it's easy to miss. God sent his son into the world because he loves real people who really consistently break God's commands, who really can't get it together, who desperately need a savior.
If you don't identify yourself as a sinner, Jesus has nothing for you. His good moral teaching will do you no good. It will make you like the devil, proud, hypocritical, but it won't save you from anything.
The purpose of God becoming a baby is so that he could become a man who had a ministry. He would live a perfect life. And then he would die the death that we deserve.
