Summary
Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount warning against counterfeit Christianity—those who claim Jesus as Lord through words but refuse obedience, or who trust in their own works rather than grace alone. True discipleship requires surrendering completely to Jesus as both Lord and Savior, bringing nothing of one's own righteousness to the cross.
Highlights
I'm not going to come into your life as only part of me. I either come in full or you can have none of me. Either at the end, he will say, well done, good and faithful servant, or he will say, depart from me, I never knew you.
If your salvation rests on anything other than the grace of Jesus and his grace alone, both of these things will always be true for you. You will actually miss in both directions.
What it means to receive Jesus as savior is that you make a pile of all of that stuff, but then at the exact same time, you also must take everything about your life that's good, everything that you think is valuable, and you also must make a pile of that, douse both of those piles in gasoline, light them both on fire, and come to Jesus with totally empty hands.
