Summary
Through the hymn "What Child Is This," the sermon calls listeners to grasp the gravity of Christ's incarnation—his full humanity and deity—receive him as Savior, and glorify him by dedicating all of life back to God. William Chatterton Dix's three-stanza hymn frames Christmas not as cultural busyness but as God's rescue mission through his Son's death and resurrection.
Highlights
There is a river swollen with sin, and there is no way to the other side spare you asking Christ to take you. Because he has eyes that say yes to all who would ask, and you are not troubling him.
You see, we don't have anything except what he has given to us. Your intellect, your body, your opportunities—everything that we have, the place you were born, the family you were born into, it's all from him. We wrap it up, it's his, we wrap it up, we give it back to him as an act of love and praise and honor.
I played my best for him—whatever God has given to you, give back to him and glorify him with it.
