Summary
James teaches that planning with pride—trying to control the future—is sin because it places us in God's position. Instead, believers should plan with patience and humility, submitting their plans to God while maintaining an eternal perspective, knowing Jesus is returning and will make all things right.
Highlights
When you take pride in your plans, all you're trying to do is play God. James isn't telling you not to plan. He's telling you not to play God.
This is the key. When you believe that Jesus is coming back again and all things are gonna be made right, it makes it so you don't have to trust in your earthly wealth anymore because no matter what, Jesus is going to return.
If you trust in Jesus as your Savior, the absolute worst thing that could happen to you in this life is that you would suffer for this little sliver of eternity and then you would spend infinite lifetimes with the creator of your soul.
