Summary
Paul describes humanity's spiritual death in sin and bondage to worldly desires before Christ, then pivots to God's gracious resurrection through faith in Jesus. Believers were dead but are now made alive, seated with Christ, and called to walk in good works—salvation is purely by grace, not earned effort.
Highlights
You were dead and you were doing the things dead people do. But now he says, you've been made alive in Christ.
God acts in the world not according to what we've done, but according to who He is. He's rich in mercy and He has great love for you.
Following Jesus is actually hard. There's a huge cost to choosing to be a disciple of Jesus. It will cost you many things. It's just going to cost you far less than choosing to stay on the path you're currently on.
