Summary
Jesus prepares His disciples for persecution, teaching that the world will hate them as it hated Him. The sermon argues that American Christians must develop spiritual grit and perseverance, distinguish between persecution for righteousness versus personal failings, and prioritize eternal kingdom values over worldly comfort and acceptance.
Highlights
If the world hates you, know it's not you, it's Him. If the world hates you, don't let it be because you're sitting on some high horse in judgment of people who are sinners because in your heart you're just as sinful as they are.
Jesus almost always calls me not to the comfortable path but to the tough one. That's why he says you have to have grit, that's why you have to persevere.
What the church is about is a whole bunch of sheep that get together in a way loving each other way because we're going to go into a wolf-filled world that's scary.
