Summary
Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain where he is transfigured in glory alongside Moses and Elijah. God the Father declares Jesus as his beloved Son, revealing that Jesus—not the law or prophets—is the sole means of salvation and access to God. This mountaintop revelation shows believers that Jesus stands alone as the fulfillment of all Scripture.
Highlights
Unlike most of us, he's actually better behind closed doors. And the closer you get to Jesus and the more sort of like into the secret parts of his life, you find yourself, the better he actually is.
Jesus wasn't being transformed. He was being revealed. His disciples, they had known the carpenter Jesus. They had known the teacher Jesus. They had known the miracle working Jesus. But the one thing they still had to grasp was the real Jesus, Jesus, the son of God.
When something so much bigger than us comes to that, we have to cower before it and nothing is bigger than God. And when Jesus reached down, when he picked them up, when they finally opened their eyes after being scared, he uses that power and that might and that glory not to keep you on the ground, but to lift you up to his level because even in all his glory, he's gentle and he's kind.
