Summary
Mark 7 reveals the conflict between God's word and societal traditions through Jesus' confrontation with Pharisees over hand-washing. The sermon argues that Christians must anchor their lives in Scripture rather than cultural values, expecting criticism for this adherence while avoiding both legalism and cultural compromise.
Highlights
If you conclude that this is not just a book about God, but that this, in fact, is a word from God, that this is inspired by God, and so that when we read the words of the Scriptures, we're reading the word of God, then the only possible conclusion is that the Bible becomes the final authority in your life.
If you adhere to God's word, you will be gracious. You will be kind. You will be loving towards all people because all people are created in God's image and as a result are worthy of dignity and respect. But you will not celebrate and affirm every belief or behavior because not every belief is true and not every behavior honors God.
The church is supposed to influence society, but too often, society ends up influencing the church. We become so used to something in our society that we don't even realize how contrary it is to God's word.
