Summary
David instructs believers to command their souls to worship God by remembering His benefits—forgiveness, healing, redemption, steadfast love, and sovereignty—even when emotions feel stuck or difficult circumstances tempt despair.
Highlights
What the Lord is after is not outward expressions of worship that aren't inward kneelings of the heart. That's phony and fake when we pretend something externally, but internally we want something completely different.
When we remember the benefits of God, we're not minimizing the things that we may be going through, but we're putting in right order all of the things that God has given us. It doesn't make that stuff small, but what comes so clear is that what God has given us is so big.
God loves us enough to tell us the truth. He's saying, 'Hey listen, if you follow me, if you stick to my ethics, if you stick to my commandments, you're gonna experiencing more and more and more of the benefits of it.'
