Summary
Through Gideon's story in Judges 6–8, God demonstrates that He empowers the weak and unlikely to accomplish His purposes. Despite fear and doubt, Gideon steps out in faith because God is with him; believers are called to fix their gaze on God's faithfulness rather than circumstances, and to point others to His strength rather than their own.
Highlights
God's power is made perfect in our weaknesses. So we don't shy away from our weaknesses. In fact, we boast all the more gladly of them because it's the people who are most aware of their weaknesses that God loves to use the most.
God being with us is not contingent on the circumstances around us, but rather it's in the faithfulness of God that he has promised that he will be with us. So what we have to do is focus our attention on him rather than our circumstances.
The odds were not 135,000 to 300. It was 135,000 to 1. God alone. And the odds were completely in his favor.
