Summary
Drawing from Ecclesiastes 9, the pastor teaches that life is inherently mixed—containing both joy and sorrow—and calls believers to shift their perspective: reject the expectation of an easy life now, actively enjoy God's good gifts in community and relationships, and anchor hope in Jesus rather than temporal circumstances.
Highlights
Do not expect your best life now. Loving Jesus and living for Jesus does not mean that your life is going to be easy.
Jesus never promises to shelter us from the brokenness of the world. People who passionately love Jesus will get cancer, experience miscarriage, lose their job—and Jesus tries to prepare us for that.
When you realize who Jesus is and what he's promised—that he left heaven, was punished so you wouldn't have to be, rose from the dead—it allows us to trade up from frustration to anticipation.
