Summary
Jesus commands disciples to love one another as He has loved them—not sentimentally, but through costly self-sacrifice and service. This foundational command for the church stands as a witness to the world that Christ has transformed His people, offering embodied love that artificial intelligence can never replicate.
Highlights
Love is not a mushy, gushy set of emotions that make me feel warm and cuddly inside. Biblical love is a decision to look at the person in front of me and say, their needs matter more than mine.
You are never going to have epic memories and moments without enduring hundreds of hours that are just slightly below average. Real friendships have moments and memories that are powerful. But most of real life friendship is normal.
The person who loves the dream of community more than the actual Christian community around him will destroy the dream of community. If you love the idea of friendship, don't fall in love with the idea. Move toward the person who's next to you to love them.
