Summary
Jesus teaches that loving God and loving neighbors as oneself are inseparable commandments. Through the parable of the Good Samaritan, he shows that God's love is costly, compassionate, and extends even to enemies—and calls believers to embody this love practically in their daily relationships.
Highlights
Love is not transactional. We can't love people with the motivation that maybe they'll join our club or maybe they'll be a Christian. We love people because God has so impacted us that we begin to mirror who he is to other people.
It seems impossible for a person that follows Jesus and loves him but doesn't love his people. It's like saying the impossible burger is a burger—it's out of sorts. This is not what it's meant to be.
We can't love people that we don't even know their names. We can't love people that we don't even know the most rudimentary details about them, and we certainly can't love them deeply if we don't know the things that they're walking through in their life.
