Summary
Mark 2:13-22 presents Jesus calling the tax collector Levi and eating with sinners, revealing that Jesus came to save sinners, not reward the religious. Disciples must embrace their missionary calling like Jesus did, and fully surrender old patterns of life (old wineskins) to receive the transformative new wine of Christ.
Highlights
Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter. You either try to spread abroad the kingdom of Christ or else you do not love him at all.
You can't relate to Jesus appropriately until you decide what you believe about his identity. You can worship Jesus as Lord, you can reject him as a lunatic, but he will not fit into your pantheon of other beliefs.
If I let go of the world, will Jesus be enough? You can trust him because he's the bridegroom. A god that knows you entirely, loves you completely, and died to redeem you is a god that you can trust.
