Summary
Paul's wrestling with sin in Romans 7 reveals the internal war every Christian faces between wanting to do right and actually doing it. Through Romans 8, the speaker shows that victory comes not through self-effort but through Christ's redemption: believers experience freedom when they grasp that there is now no condemnation, and that their identity is secure in Christ using the framework of "now, no, in."
Highlights
Honesty comes before freedom. And yet here's the challenge that I know for many of you in this room. There's so many people who would rather stay enslaved to their sin and hide than be honest about their sin and experience freedom.
If your good works couldn't get you into a relationship with your God, your bad works couldn't get you out of it. You are in Christ. That is your identity.
You don't need more grit. You need more grace. You need to read Romans eight over your heart and see that Jesus is not condemning you. So why are you condemning you?
