Summary
Jacob's life demonstrates how to persevere through disillusionment when reality doesn't match expectations. Rather than abandoning faith when suffering comes, Christians must prepare for encounters with God's presence by listening to His voice, burying idols, and building altars of worship.
Highlights
That ache in your soul, the intuition that life should be more is not evidence that God in eternity don't exist, but evidence that they do. Hunger is evidence that food exists. Thirst, evidence that water exists. And your longing, the stubborn, innate and universal assumption of the human soul that the world should be good is evidence that heaven exists and that you were made for it.
You can't avoid the pain of this world as a Christian, but you can worship your way through it. You can't change the circumstances, but you can worship.
If you have trusted in Jesus, then God's presence is in you. You may not be fully home yet, but God has made his home in you. You may not be in heaven yet, but heaven has come down into you.
