Summary
Judges 2:6–3:6 illustrates how Israel forgot God's saving work and descended into idolatry and evil, contrasting the worship that flows from remembering the gospel with the false worship born from spiritual amnesia. The passage reveals Jesus as the true and better Judge—eternal and capable of saving from sin—and calls believers to remember the gospel amid present suffering and remaining brokenness.
Highlights
That is the rapid spiral of gospel amnesia. That is what happens when we forget the mercy and the kindness and the grace of God given to us in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The root danger is gospel amnesia. The biggest danger that we face as a church are Christian leaders who salivate over strategies, structures, and statistics, but you never hear them have any hunger for their Savior.
When we know we're weak and we say the Lord, I can't do it, may the power of the risen Christ be displayed in me. God loves that because our weaknesses are the context in which God gives us himself and brings the fullness of the power of Christ to perfection.
