Summary
Psalm 42 reveals how spiritual drought and depression feel—desperate longing for God, overwhelming tears, and feeling abandoned—while offering seven practical ways to fight for hope: refining desires, remembering God's presence, repeating truth, affirming God's sovereignty, recalling His love, remaining in prayer, and resetting hope beyond earthly circumstances.
Highlights
Feelings are like the warning lights on your dashboard. They don't need to be ignored. They should be investigated. They don't need to be covered or masked.
Your feelings are real, but they might not be telling you the truth. They may very well need some attention and action, but I can tell you they probably don't need obedience.
More than you and I need what God can do, we need who he is. More than we need the activity of his hands, we need to see the beauty of his face.
