Summary
Jesus taught His disciples a revolutionary way to pray characterized by intimacy with God and effectiveness in advancing His kingdom. Prayer combines communion with God and intercession for His kingdom to come on earth, requiring a posture of inner stillness, a pattern guided by the Lord's Prayer, and producing deepening relationship with God.
Highlights
Jesus desired to show His disciples a new way to pray. What we effectively call the Lord's Prayer was Jesus showing His disciples how to pray using a model that they could follow.
We can find stillness because of who God is. We know that our actions do not determine God's nature. And we can trust in the fact that God will remain God, regardless of the circumstances around us.
Prayer is both a place that we can find rest in God and peace in him, and we can also wrestle with God for his kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.
