Summary
Through Ruth 3–4, the sermon contrasts two types of redeemers: selfish Mr. So-and-so, who abandons Ruth when costs rise, and selfless Boaz, who redeems her at great personal expense out of love. This mirrors Jesus, the ultimate Redeemer, who sacrifices himself for us not because we deserve it, but because he loves us.
Highlights
Many of you tonight either consciously or subconsciously you serve a God who looks and sounds a lot like selfish Mr. So-and-so. Who wants your land but doesn't want you.
The essence of sin is man substituting himself for God while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man. Man asserts himself against God and puts himself where only God deserves to be. God sacrifices himself for man and puts himself where only man deserves to be.
He redeems you not because you're worthy. Not because you do everything right. No he redeems you not because of land but because of love. He loves you.
