Summary
Jesus calls the spiritually sleepy church of Sardis to wake up, strengthen their dying faith, and remember God's faithfulness. Though they had a reputation of spiritual vitality, they had become spiritually dormant through busyness, lost relationships, and competing loyalties—yet embers of faith remain that can be stirred into flame.
Highlights
For many of us, the great danger is not that we will renounce our faith. It is that we will become so distracted and rushed and preoccupied that we will settle for a mediocre version of it.
It's a lot easier to stir up embers into a flame than it is to start over. Even if your flame for Christ has gotten all the way down to an ember, you can stir it up.
When are you most likely to succumb to that temptation? When are you most likely to ruin your life? When you have isolated yourself from the community of believers.
