Summary
Luke 23:32-43 presents two criminals crucified with Jesus whose opposite responses to him—rejection and acceptance—illustrate the eternal consequences of how we respond to Christ. The preacher argues that our choice regarding Jesus is the hinge of our eternal destiny, and that God's mercy is available to all who come to him in faith, regardless of past sin.
Highlights
Your destination may swing on the hinges of your decision, but here's the thing: even if you made all the wrong decisions, there's a God who's merciful and gracious, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, waiting for you to come.
You ain't got to be righteous. You just have to be needy. You go to God and say, God, remember me. I've failed 10,000 times, but remember me because I don't have anywhere else to go.
Every sin in essence is a killing of God. Every time we disobey God, every time we tell a lie, every time we replace something to worship in place of God, we in essence put God out of his throne and kill him.
