Summary
Jesus enters Jerusalem as King, riding a donkey to fulfill messianic prophecy. Though culturally expected to be a conquering warrior-king, Jesus demonstrates radical servant kingship by caring for the poor and welcoming outsiders into the temple. The sermon calls listeners to surrender complete authority of their lives to Christ rather than selectively choosing which areas he can influence.
Highlights
Jesus is the only king, but he's a radically different kind of king than we're used to. He didn't come riding into town on a war horse. He came riding into town on a donkey, on a colt. He didn't come to kill his enemies. He came to lay down his life for his enemies so that they might be saved.
If Jesus is a king, it just follows that you don't get to just pick and choose what you want from him. If Jesus is the King, He has to have access to my whole life. He has to be in charge of all of it.
The joy and the life that you long for is not found in being the king, but in serving the king. To become a Christian is to look at Jesus Christ and find in him a depth of character and courage and conviction and love that is unrivaled, and to say, Jesus, you're worthy of my life.
