What to do When Desire Drifts
Harris Creek Baptist Church
Speaker: Jonathan Pokluda

Summary
Drawing from Revelation 2:1-7, the pastor explores how the church of Ephesus maintained perfect outward discipline and works while their love for God grew cold—a silent killer that leads to spiritual drift. Through repentance and a return to practices that kindle affection for God, believers restore what was lost and prevent their lampstand from being removed.
Highlights
Discipline without desire is dangerous. You have to maintain the desire, the heart for God, because that's what he's after. So you can do the things, you can do the deeds, you can manage the checklist and your heart can drift at the same time.
Self-reliance is the enemy of your spiritual growth. It is crafty, because it will trick you into thinking that you're spiritually mature while you're actually growing spiritually immature by doing all the things spiritually mature people do.
He's not asking for new activities. He's asking for old affections. What makes you love God more? You've gotta know what makes you love God more. You've gotta have a death grip on that.
