Summary
Jacob encounters God at the River Jabbok and wrestles with Him through the night, experiencing a name change to Israel. The sermon argues that wrestling with God—not receiving answers to our questions—is what transforms us, inviting listeners to embrace spiritual struggle as an act of intimate connection with God.
Highlights
The act of wrestling with God, that is what changes us. Not the answers to your questions, that doesn't change you. What really changes you is embracing the wrestle, leaning into the wrestle and it doesn't matter who wins. It's not about winning, it's about wrestling with God.
What if the greatest thing God can do when you're hurting and suffering and broken and confused and have questions and cannot find the answers anywhere, is to just simply come close on your level and grab you and hold you and keep you up all night long and refuse to let you go because he loves you this much.
Those questions—how long, why, where are you—you know what they are? Those questions are God's invitations to come wrestle with him.
