Summary
Through three narratives in 1 Samuel 4–8, God's presence is revealed as holy, powerful, and sufficient. Israel learns that God cannot be manipulated as a tool but demands relational worship; the Philistines discover God's power when false idols crumble before Him; and despite Israel's rejection of God for an earthly king, Jesus becomes the ultimate fulfillment of God's sufficient presence dwelling within believers through the Holy Spirit.
Highlights
God doesn't just want to do things for us. He wants to be with us. God is calling us into something that is deeper than just a transaction. He wants us to dwell with him, not just to use him.
Every man is as close to God as he wants to be.
While we were busy rejecting the king, the king came to us. Jesus left the throne and he took on flesh and was crucified by the very people that he came to save.
