Summary
Paul instructs the church in Ephesus on how to conduct themselves as God's household, emphasizing prayer for all people, unity rooted in the gospel, and proper order in church leadership—particularly addressing contentious behavior among both men and women by calling them back to the gospel's transformative power.
Highlights
The gospel becomes a radical equality that blew their culture out of the water—men and women are co-equal, co-heirs in Christ, the sons and daughters of God, both inherit everything.
What would reshape those prayers and make them holy again? The gospel. What would the gospel possibly instruct that would change a heart of anger towards one another? Could it be that God, whom we offended far more than anyone could possibly offend us, still loved us and did everything it took to make us right with him?
Male headship in marriage is not the result of the fall but part of the order of creation. Satan hates this because God has ordered it to reflect the image-bearing principle and symbolize both God's love for his people and the unsurpassed beauty of Christ's saving work.
