Summary
Paul contrasts shepherds with showmen, revealing three marks of leaders worth following: divine jealousy for exclusive devotion to Christ, prioritizing doctrine over delivery, and exposing deceptive substitutes of the gospel. Believers are betrothed to Jesus as His bride and must guard against subtle counterfeits that compromise sincere devotion to Him.
Highlights
A showman wants you to listen to them so that they can be heard. But a shepherd wants you to listen to them so that Christ can be treasured in your heart.
You can pee in a minute made bottle, but that doesn't make it lemonade. You can make a subtle twist to the gospel, but that does not make it good news. Don't believe it. It will lead to death.
The best way to identify a counterfeit and to equip yourself with the ability to identify a counterfeit is to deep down know the real deal.
