Summary
Paul teaches the Corinthian church that the hardest part of Christian life is remembering, not receiving, their new identity in Christ. Believers are secure through Christ's perfect performance, controlled by His love toward both restriction and righteous action, and dead to sin's power—identity truths that must be consistently remembered to live a transformed life.
Highlights
The hardest part about the Christian life is not receiving the new identity in Christ. It's just remembering that you have one.
A gospel identity needs to be the loudest voice in your ear if you want to live a stable life. Trusting not in your ability to be good enough for God, but trusting in Christ's ability to be good enough, resting in his performance on your behalf.
If you find yourself in a cycle of sin and shame, the thing to start saying is not, 'I'm so bad.' The thing to start saying is, 'I'm dead to sin.'
