Summary
Jesus opens the Sermon on the Mount with the Beatitudes, pronouncing blessing on the poor in spirit, mourning, meek, and others while progressively challenging disciples with demands for mercy, purity, peacemaking, and willingness to endure persecution. The sermon establishes that following Jesus requires costly discipleship but guarantees present membership in God's kingdom and future eternal reward.
Highlights
If you're poor in spirit, if you're beat down by following Jesus, if you're persecuted by following Jesus, you need to know that you don't have to wait. That right now, the kingdom of heaven is yours.
The darker it becomes, the brighter the light shines. Are you ready to let your light shine?
It is worth it to follow Jesus, to say yes to him, to have your sins forgiven and removed from you, so that you can follow him now and for all of eternity.
