Summary
Isaiah 9:1–7 prophesies the coming Messiah 700 years before Jesus' birth. When God draws near, darkness is vanquished, chains are broken, and His kingdom is established through Christ, who alone is the wise, mighty, eternal King worthy of complete allegiance.
Highlights
The darkness promises freedom but it delivers slavery. It's exactly what Peter says—they promised them freedom but they themselves are slaves to corruption.
In the light we see sin for what it really is. Jesus is the light that shows us that sin is actually a liar and where true liberation and freedom is found.
When you read through these passages about the Messiah, of course the Jews were obsessed with finding Him. Who wouldn't want a king and kingdom like this?
