Through the anointing of David in 1 Samuel 16, God demonstrates that his plans are never frustrated by human failure, don't depend on human wisdom, elevate unlikely people, and require his presence. The passage points ultimately to Jesus as the greater David, the perfect king who accomplishes God's eternal purposes.
