Summary
Jesus commands disciples to love one another sacrificially, as He loved them, making love the defining mark of Christian community. This new commandment requires a standard of sacrificial love, powered by first experiencing God's love through the gospel. Believers cultivate belonging by abiding in Christ and practicing vulnerability through confession of sin.
Highlights
The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community.
Biblical love is a choice. Worldly love happens to you, but biblical love is a choice.
If you want to be known and loved, the only path to the community you want is true confession of sin and true vulnerability.
