Summary
Genesis 1:1 establishes God as eternal, all-powerful, and the sole creator of all existence ex nihilo (from nothing). Understanding that humans bear God's image gives them intrinsic value and purpose—to have dominion, reflect God's character, and maintain a relationship with Him that no other creation can experience.
Highlights
You are valued by God, but you are not in charge. You are made of intrinsic worth, but you are not the supreme authority.
We are made in the image of God. He is not made in our image. And yet many of us in our own minds and by our actions try to create a God made in our image who never disagrees with our feelings or our thoughts.
If you can get past the first verse of the Bible, everything else is easier to believe.
