Summary
Jesus teaches that he is the King who lays down his life for all nations, using the metaphor of a grain of wheat dying to produce much fruit. He calls followers to abandon self-centered living, lay aside their own desires, and follow his example of sacrifice—not for self-glory but for God's glory and the redemption of all people.
Highlights
Jesus is neither holding up the scales of judgment nor disinterested and uninvolved—he is deeply involved and has come not to judge the world but to save it. He came looking for me and you, not when we were good, but when we were rebels.
Our culture says it's my body, my choice, it's whatever I want to do, it's my money, my things, I do what I want. But Jesus says, I've purchased your body with my blood, so it's not yours anymore—I bought it back, and it belongs to me.
We are spiritually malnourished because 63% of evangelical Christians read the Bible about once a week. If I said 63% of people eat once a week, you'd be greatly concerned. We need to bend our ear to the word of God more often.
