Summary
Through the story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10:17-31, the preacher exposes how wealth and possessions can become idols that prevent people from receiving God's kingdom. Jesus calls believers to radical trust and dependence on God alone, not on material security or self-righteousness, and promises eternal reward to those who follow Him with empty hands.
Highlights
His possessions greatly had him, and just like that eagle forfeited life because it would not let go of the fish, this rich young ruler forfeited eternal life because he would not let go of his wealth and come to Jesus empty-handed.
Obedience is something that should be in response to the gospel, not a replacement of the gospel.
When God calls us to himself, he doesn't call us from something without also calling us to something that is so much better, that is so much more lasting, that is imperishable, undefiled, and not fading.
