Summary
Genesis 2 reveals four foundational truths about marriage: it is not good for humans to exist alone, differences between partners are designed to be complementary rather than competitive, marriage creates a new unified identity that requires self-sacrifice, and authentic intimacy requires vulnerability without shame. However, sin has fractured this original design, making perfect earthly marriage impossible—a reality that points to Christ as the ultimate spouse who fulfills what earthly relationships cannot.
Highlights
Trying to navigate dating and marriage without the foundations in Genesis 2 is like trying to put together a puzzle without seeing the box.
When God calls the woman a helper, he is trying to bestow an honor on her by giving her a title that is only ever used for him.
Marriage is dying to yourself to become one with another person.
