Romans 6 teaches that sin enslaves the human heart, not just individual actions. Through faith in Christ, believers' old enslaved selves are crucified with Jesus and given new hearts that belong to Him, freeing them to love righteousness instead of sin.

The blood of Jesus procures our pardon for what we have done, but the cross procures our deliverance from what we are.
Your broken hearts are not fixed, they are replaced. And these new hearts that we've been given, they actually belong to someone else.
