Summary
Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey to fulfill Zechariah's prophecy of a humble, righteous king who brings salvation to all nations. Though crowds anticipate his kingship, many reject him because they prefer earthly glory and political salvation over spiritual freedom in Christ, a pattern repeated today when people choose the world's offerings over submission to the true King.
Highlights
A lion-like lamb and a lamb-like lion is exactly what the world needs. It's exactly what you and I need. The lion is a picture of courage and justice and majesty. A lamb is a picture of innocence and gentleness. And never before have those two things been combined in such a way that you didn't lose one or the other.
We choose the glory of man to be more profitable than the glory of God. We choose to want the praise of others. We choose to want the things of this world more than we want the very things of God that will never, ever perish or spoil.
Jesus loves us enough to not serve that storyline. He loves you and me too much to facilitate that type of idolatry. He is going to intersect with our stories in order to invite us into his story and he's going to challenge our picture of what flourishing looks like.
