Summary
Paul opens 1 Corinthians by declaring the Corinthian church as saints in Christ, emphasizing that Christian identity is rooted in God's grace and faithfulness, not behavior. Despite their moral failures, believers are sustained by Christ's perfect work and can stand guiltless before God through His unmerited favor and completed sacrifice.
Highlights
No matter how awful you acted the day before, or the night before, or the years before, if you are a follower of Jesus, you will always be referred to as a saint in Christ. That will always be your position. That will always be who you are.
It's not about my grip on God, but it's about God's grip on me. It tells me that my job is not to fight to stay in the possession of my Creator, but to rest in the hands of him that I am not capable of removing myself from.
The safety of your salvation, the safety of your position in God is not about your behavior. It's not even about your faithfulness to him, but it's in his faithfulness to you.
