Summary
Matthew 4 presents Jesus' wilderness temptations as a reversal of Adam and Eve's fall. Jesus resists Satan's offers of self-provision, self-preservation, and self-glorification by clinging to God as Father, ultimately enduring separation from the Father on the cross so believers can be restored to that relationship.
Highlights
Jesus is not just here to be a new teacher or a leader of some kind of new religion but actually Jesus is doing something that's overturning the story of the world that we have read from the very first pages of the Bible.
I didn't come to turn these stones into bread so I could satisfy myself I actually came so I could turn my body into bread so I could satisfy the world.
Jesus defeated Satan and now he's literally giving you an opportunity to have God as your father once again the one that you have cast off and said I don't want trust me you actually want him.
