Summary
Jesus prays for His disciples and all future believers in John 17, revealing His heart before the cross: to glorify God, make Himself known through His people, and unite believers in otherworldly oneness with God and each other so the world believes. Christians own their faith by connecting to a local church and aiming at Jesus' example of being noticeably different from the world while actively proclaiming the Gospel.
Highlights
Jesus was sent to make God known, and Jesus sends us to make God known.
If the Gospel is powerful enough to reconcile us back to God, then the Gospel is powerful enough to reconcile us back to each other when we fail and when we sin.
The unity of God's people makes God known.
