Summary
Luke chapter 2 presents Jesus's birth, infancy, and early childhood within Caesar Augustus's reign. Through the shepherds, Simeon, and Anna, Luke demonstrates Jesus as the promised Messiah and ultimate sacrifice. The passage culminates in twelve-year-old Jesus claiming his unique relationship with God the Father while remaining obedient to the law of Moses and his earthly parents.
Highlights
If the shepherds were moved so much to go tell people about the hope of the Savior of the world just by seeing him as a child being born in a feeding trough, then how much more should we be moved as Christians by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is either a magnet for people that people are drawn to Jesus because they are hopeless and in need of hope, or he is repellent to those that want to live on their own and don't want to live for the Lord.
Jesus Christ was submissive to his parents and his mother treasured up all these things, showing that not only was Jesus acknowledging his special relationship with God the Father, but he was also acknowledging his submission to the law of the Lord.
