Summary
Jesus confronts his disciples' obsession with political power as they journey to Jerusalem, teaching that true greatness comes through servanthood and self-sacrifice, not worldly authority. The ransom of his life frees followers from slavery to fear, approval, comfort, and sin, calling them to embrace mockery and marginalization as they carry his mission in this world while awaiting exaltation in the next.
Highlights
Following Jesus is not a path to worldly power. Following Jesus is a path of weakness.
Jesus came to serve, not be served, and to give his life as a ransom for many, and we're supposed to be about the same thing.
Peace is never going to come from a political savior. That wasn't Jesus' intention. Not in this world.
